That Wing Fling Thing

April 20, 2008

Flying is one of the most surreal avatar capabilities in Second Life. And although we can all do it very well without the help of wings, this week, at Wing Fling, they are the new must-have accessory for Spring.

Running from Saturday, April 19  to Sunday, April 27, the inaugural Wing Fling, 2008 is sponsored by Seven’s Selections, with Co-Sponsor billing awarded to Material Squirrel. The Fair features a total of 13 Vendors and is well worth a look.

Jooooools…

April 19, 2008

I spend a considerable amount of my time in Second Life outside of Roleplay Sims, and for those purposes I have a collection of pretty ‘jools’ from significant design houses such as Muse, BijouxOr (by Alienbear) and of course Random Calliope.

Now. If you’re a fan of the detail and decadence produced by these creators, I urge you to run as fast as you can to add the new Awen Collection from Malakh Giles on behalf of Avilion Mist to your inventory.

Suitable for Medieval Roleplay? Yes. But they are also singularly beautiful pieces of art, and the new collection offers something for everyone whether you’re really an Elf, of just a wannabe, wearing rubber prosthetic ears for the day and cracking jokes about your “other job” being an SL Fashion Blogger.

 Awen Use

The design premise is that of the Druidic ‘Awen’, which depicts three rays, emanating from three points of light. These are surrounded by three circles, ostensibly representing the three circles of creation, so sayeth the word of Wikipedia.

At the wise urging of his partner, Serenity Sieyes, Malakh has produced three variations on the same necklace.

One which features the Awen - a simple symbol translated beautifully - one with a Triskellion, (Don’t ask me how he made the prims do that!) and one with a simpler version of the original Awen, which is just a little less extravagant and perfect for wear in the greater SL community.

 Triskellion

To accompany each necklace, there is a choice of circlet. One for both Awen pendants, and one to match the Triskellion. And if that weren’t magnificent enough, you can also opt for the pair of earrings which matches all of them.

Thoughtfully, the collection is offered in Gold, Silver and Gunmetal settings, and the stones contain a color-change script with 8 different colors to choose from.

Joooooools..

The fit around an avatar’s neck is something of a touchy subject for me when it comes to jewelry. But these pieces show the same high standard as previous offerings from Avilion Mist, and for me, needed only a small nudge down the Z axis, courtesy of my avatar’s short stature. (Read: Stumpy neck.)

Awen 2 Use

The pieces are all incredibly detailed, with individual chain links and there is L$150 for the person who produces a photograph of Malakh wearing a pair of thick coke-bottle glasses, as he surely must be, after such extensive work with tiny prims.

Permissions are No Copy/No Mod/Transfer, so grab a set for yourself, then grab the other style, because you just couldn’t choose, and finally…. Get one for somebody else as a gift, to complete your very own Awen triad of precious jools!

Inside Caverna Obscura

April 17, 2008

Sometimes, the best way to find the most amazing stuff, is just to wander about the grid.

I stumbled upon Elvina Ewing’s creations at Caverna Obscura at random, but was immediately captivated by what I saw. Her small, but comprehensive inventory ranges from Skins, to Gowns, to Armor to Footwear and is well worth a look.

The first thing I pounced on, was the Symphony Faerie Outfit.

Caverna O FrontBack

It comes with a total of 15 pieces. Items on the Jacket, T-Shirt, Underpants and Socks layers, as well as Prim Sleeves, Prim Skirt and Garters, Butterfly and Jewel accessories, and a choice of two feathered masks. (not pictured)

The textures are strong, rich and well aligned, and the prims are exceptionally tidy (*adore*) with great flex. The touches like the optional butterfly, and the choice of masks are thoughtful and make this outfit incredibly fun to wear.

Oddly, the prim items are non-transferrable but have copy/mod permissions, while the clothing layers are no copy/no mod, yet can be transferred. Either way, it doesn’t appear to be available for gift purchase without contacting Elvira.

If you’re feeling a little frisky, backflip over to her new Main Store and try one on.

Caverna O Sit2

Next, there is the Mialee Sorceress Outfit which is a sexy, strong, yet feminine offering. I was especially impressed with the original way Elvira has conceived the use of prim pieces for the top.

There are 14 pieces in total, including gloves, a flex cape and a magnificent staff for you to carry. (not pictured)

Caverna Obscura Mialee Full

It has amazing detail built into the neck/shoulder yoke, and you even receive a pair of matching prim boots.

Inside Caverna Obscura

If you wanted to visit a fantasy/roleplay sim looking spiffy without having to shop 18 different stores first, try Caverna Obscura.

Really.

Aurora on Parade

April 7, 2008

Introduced at the Relay for Life Clothing Fair, is a recent release from Evie’s Closet  - The Aurora Gown.

Aurora Red

A feast for the eyes, with clean textures that pop, the Aurora Gown is a little less formal than some of the Gowns Evie has created in the past. It works as a gown which might have been worn by a Tavern Wench, or something worn by a Lady for a walk in the woods.

However, because the textures are so rich, it could no doubt be dressed up with some fancy hair and/or accessories.

Aurora BrownGreen

The outfit comes with a Jacket, Glitch Pants, Skirt Layer, Prim Flex Skirt (with Evie’s usual standard of flowing goodness) and Prim Sleeves.

The Flex skirt has two layers, the overskirt being a riot of fabrics which look to be hand-dyed with colors complimentary to the main hue of the gown. It really is just sheer fun to wear.

Elysian Faerie Fantasy

March 1, 2008

Every good Fashionista knows that textures can make or break an outfit. And once in a while, something comes along which just makes you stop and double-take with an audiable “Wow!”. The new Elysian Faerie Gown from Evie’s Closet did it for me.

I saw it worn by an erstwhile Faerie while idling around the fire in the Medieval Roleplay Sim, Avilion. And suddenly, *I* wanted to be that pretty, sparkling, sexy thing. So off I ran to Evie’s Closet to scoop my own copy, and here’s what I found.

Elysian Violet

The ensemble comes with a total of 13 pieces, including two choices for the skirt length. The first is a floor-length Ballgown which has a gorgeous satin sheen on the prims and incorporates a layered look.

This Ballgown skirt is also offered twice, once with a stomach attachment point, and once attaching to the pelvis. This is apparently to accomodate SL’s furry residents, those who carry specialised roleplay weapons and/or those who ride horses as attachments.

The real gem here is the bodice. Super-sparkly, the texture is just divine. It looks as though the entire thing is encrusted with tiny shards of crystal. It has a sexy corset shape, and the skirt prims blend seamlessly into the waist.

Elysian Green2

The second skirt option is a short, fluffy mini which is just perfect when teamed with the optional leg ribbons and prim bows for a psuedo-ballerina look. As the images above show, the gown also comes with optional arm ribbons, and a matching prim flower wreath for your hair.

Elysian Faerie Fantasy

In other news, it seems Evie’s Closet has teamed up for a second time with The Celestial Arcanum, owned by designer Daneel Chevalier. Their first collaboration was on a ring for Evie’s “Imperial” series, and this time Daneel is back with a custom-made necklace which matches each Elysian Gown.

They’re definitely worth a look if you plan to add this gem of a gown to your wardrobe. The prim work offers a sweet, gentle design and the colors are perfectly matched. They are currently only on offer at the Evie’s Closet Main Store.

Whether you want a beautiful new gown for Ballroom romance, need some sparkle for your inventory which isn’t 17th century bling, or if.. just if.. you’ve got a date with Legolas, grab this one from Evie’s Closet now.

Chimeras and Dreams

March 1, 2008

Every month since her update group was introduced, Evangeline Miles of Evie’s Closet has given away an amazing free gown to her Group Members.

This month, to thank those group members who have joined and then stuck around (we all know how fierce the competition for limited Group Spaces can be) Evie has placed her group on lock down, and only those avatars lucky enough to be existing members will be receiving this gorgeous snowy white version of her super popular Chimera Gown.

Evie's Closet Freebie

If you are a member of Evie’s Closet and missed the notice which went out this morning, go to your Group Notices and find the one titled “February Group Gift”.  The Gown is attached. Simply save it to your inventory, and voila!

If you missed out this month, get into Evie’s Closet to check out her stuff, and be sure to join when enrollment opens again. (Reportedly at the end of March, before the next free gown is given away)

The Rose - Avilion Mist

February 12, 2008

More goodness from Avilion Mist!

This time it’s a new Gown by Serenity Sieyes, called “The Rose”.

The Rose - Avilion Mist

The gown comes with 19 seperate pieces, allowing you to mix and match several different looks. There are two prim skirts, two shirts, plus optional sleeves on the jacket layer, to which you can add beautiful floor-length prims in your choice of two colors. Serenity has also included a modesty top and a headpiece with optional veil, making the ensemble suitable for Gorean Freewomen, or those who simply like pretty things in their hair…

And just when you thought you couldn’t stand any more choices, there is a final added bonus - One beautiful black Avilion Mist Scripted cape.

The Gown’s permissions are No Transfer/Copy, with Modify granted on Prim parts. This is a considerate choice by the designer, as it allows each customer the opportunity to obtain a perfect fit.

The Rose - Avilion Mist

After opening the fun wooden casket the Gown came in, I spent a delightful half hour trying everything on, and defining the configuration of layers I liked the most. No matter what combinations I came up with, the gown left me feeling like I’d stepped into a fairytale.

A fairytale starring *Me*.

I really couldn’t decide which part of this gown was my favorite… it might have been the beautiful textures… or perhaps the luscious sleeves.. they flow at the perfect level… soft and dreamlike. Needless to say… If you want something really special, head on down to the Avilion Mist Fortress and add The Rose to your wardrobe.

Needful Things….

February 9, 2008

When you’ve found the perfect gown.. the perfect hair…. and the perfect shoes, the only thing left to complete your look, are the perfect accessories.

And when you’re on the hunt, you need look no farther than the must-have, new color scripted jewels from Avilion Mist.

I’m wearing pieces from two seperate and equally beautiful sets. The quality of the work is faultless.

Sojourner/Twilight Emerald

The Sojourner Necklace (Worn in Gold and Emerald) is scripted with 8 different gemstone choices which can be selected from a menu when you touch the jewels. There are no HUDs or Room Chat Channels required. The menu also allows you to toggle the full bright setting on and off.

The design is intricate, with lots of lovely flowing lines, (See the detail shot in Gold and Amethyst below) and I was especially impressed with the fit of the chain around my neck.

Many pieces have been relegated to the back of my jewelry box, because they alternately sink into my avatar, or stick out at an unusual gravity-defying angle when I attempt to edit their position.

Sojourner/Twilight Silver

The Twilight Collection Circlet (worn here in Silver and Diamond) also offers 8 gem color choices and the full bright toggle, so the two collections can be mixed and matched together.

The pieces all come with No Copy/No Modify/Transfer permissions, which makes them perfect for gift-giving.

Twilight Circlet AmethystNeedful Things

Both collections are offered in a choice of either Gold or Silver metal. Be sure to check out the matching prim earrings also, (not pictured) at the Avilion Mist Fortress.
